On April 17th 2007 I was asked to give some help to give journalists information about property in the South of France - this was at a function to launch ther film about the book "A good Year" by Peter Mayle. Here is a photo of me with Peter Mayle in the grounds of the chateau featured in the film.
To be completely honest, I have not been a fan either of the Luberon as a place to live or of Peter Mayle's books and writing. But after a day in the region and meeting and talking to Peter, I can see both why the Luberon has a certain fascination and I got to like Peter Mayle, he seems a genuine and sincere person.
Even after spending a "heady" day in dreamlike properties costing many millions of euro - I prefer my home in Languedoc, the scenery is just as magical, we are much nearer the Mediterranean, the weather is just as hot in summer, but much milder in winter and we do not have the cruel wind of Provence. The fact that proeprty prices are less than half with better wine, transport and communications also has a lot to do with it.
