Swimming Pool Safety - AgainDear Tony, Oh no not again I hear you saying.I know you have written many times about the above subject. We have a property with a swimming pool in Les Arc Sur Argen in France and my gardner tells me we do not need a security fence around the pool provided we have an alarm system. We do not rent out the property and only use it ourselves for the months of June to August. The pool would be covered from mid september to may. As the rules keep changing or the interpretations of the rules keep changing could I please ask of you to give me the details of the site with the most up todate information on this important matter. Love your articles but seem to always delete them when I have read them. Cheers from a sunny but cold Dublin. Paul. ==== Hello Paul I am happy to keep writing about this vitally important subject, if it avoids one accident then I would write about it until the cows come home. I have pages of stuff about this at The South of France - Colour Temperature Twenty Thousand Kelvin, and Rising I wrote most of this before the deadlines and I am "interested" to see how little has been done. The law is simple to the point of vagueness - it simply says that an "Approved safety device or fence must be used" - the specification for this is set out in several documents you can buy for about 60 euro each. I cannot show these so I am sure you will not look at the pages... http://nizas.com/newsletters/swimming_pools/barriers_nf_p90_306.pdf or http://nizas.com/newsletters/swimming_pools/barriers_nf_p90_308.pdf or http://nizas.com/newsletters/swimming_pools/elements_nf_p90_309.pdf There is another one on alarms - P90 307 - which I will look for online somewhere and may accidentally leave the link available. So in answer to you question - yes it seems your gardener is right, if you buy an approved alarm and it is working correctly, you should be covered legally. I have seen these in many supermarkets from about 400 euro, the price is bound to drop, last year the cheapest were1200 euro The law is supposed to be enforced by the Gendarmerie - my secret sources inside the local cop-shop tell me that nothing is being done - but - if there was an accident or if a neighbour denounces you, then you must be sure that everything is tickety-boo or face a potential 42,000 euro fine (or worse) Hope this helps Tony There are over 2,000 features and articles on this site about French life and living in France. You can search from the search box above. Do browse through our website and please use the advertising links, they help pay for the site. I do try to reply to all mail - Contact Me - most is about property or living in France. I publish comments in this newsletter which I believe are of interest and may help find answers for people wanting to come to France. I hope readers will go to the adverts which help support our overheads. |
