Carte de Sejour

Tony,
Thanks for your latest newsletter. I'm glad to hear you've completely recovered from your illness. I'm very confused about the carte de sejour - you say in your book review "there has not been a carte de sejour this millennium". I had thought that while it was not longer compulsory under EU law it was still advisable to have one. I'd like to sort this out because, after many years of dreaming and planning, I'll be moving permanently to my Languedoc house this July! Any advice would be very useful. Thanks and best wishes,
Teleri

Hello Tereri

The Carte de Sejour does not exist anymore. A European citizen does not need any permit to live in France now, France is in the EEC .

Your local Mairie should be able to help, but you are more likely to get a puzzled look and be told whatever they happen to have in their hand at the time as an answer, even if it is a knitting pattern or recipe for kipper marmalade.

If your Languedocian house is near ours, come over (with a bottle of wine).

Bonne Chance

Tony

I do try to reply to all mail - Contact Me - most is about property or living in France. I publish comments in this newsletter which I believe are of interest and may help find answers for people wanting to come to France. I hope readers will go to the adverts which help support our overheads.
