From our mail bag - Work for $10 a day 7. The great Britain Travel Guide === 1. Travel and Cancellation Insurance I mentioned last week how I learn from the questions you ask and how I hope to use this to improve the services on our sites. A good example of this is my assumption that all travelers have full travel insurance, not only for baggage and medical cover abroad, but also for cancellation of booking, air tickets etc. No one plans to go on a vacation and buys tickets, books accommodation and pays for hotels or rentals etc and then cancels on purpose. But it does happen. In The UK cancellation insurance is normal for most travelers. But from recent mail I have discovered that many travelers from other parts of the world do not even know it existed. My thanks to a subscriber for telling me this and also for introducing me to a company who can arrange complete travel insurance packages for anybody from any country. I have added the services of "United Travel Protection" to our site. You can see full details at... http://goto-france.com/insurance/ and get insured direct by using our on-line form at... http://goto-france.com/insurance/quote.html Their prices are very competitive and the peace of mind is priceless. We arrange bookings for many other owners, their normal terms and conditions of booking are that you should always assume that any deposits or payments made for rental accommodation are non refundable. For a small charge, usually around 3% you can get full cover and no worries. When you book the insurance from our site, please write and tell me and we will give you an extra bottle of AOC wine when you are in France === 2. Villa Available in August Incredibly, still available for August, is one of the best villas on the Mediterranean in the "smartest" area of the nicest town. Villa "Paraisette" in Menton is still available from July 29 to September 9. Full details on our site at http://goto-france.com/paraisette/ === 3. Your help please with aol links I have had some feedback that the links in this newsletter are not always "clickable" from your e-mail reader. This has only been from AOL readers. Please let me know if you have this problem as the server for the newsletter, mail-list.com, will try to set the systems to work for you. === 4. "France Voila" Magazine I am still putting all the newsletter pages on a new site at... This will be much more than an on-line magazine, I am planning to make it a real melting pot for information and news about France and travel in general. I have been very lucky in getting travel journalists to send top quality features and some professional photographers are allowing me to use their material for the site. Food, Drink, Tours, Bargains, Last minute offers, Wanted, For sale, Classifieds and a lot more. Let me know what you want to see and if there is a demand I will put it on. You have been very helpful in the past few months and all your input is being used to get the site right. === 5. Mary Gallagher's tip of the week "I like to pack almost empty tubes of tooth paste, hand cream and other items. By the end of the trip they're gone and I have more room for purchases." mailto:Mary@gallagherstravels.com === 6. From our mail bag - Work for $10 a day "Hi, Tony. I found your posting on the Rick Steve's site. This August, I'm making my first trip to France! My friend and I are eager to hit the wine-making regions and would love some guidance. What wineries would you recommend? Any suggested places to stay? Do you know if any of the growers look for help with picking grapes? Thanks, Akiko " = Hello Akiko The vendange (harvest) is from the end of August to the beginning of October, depending on the variety, locale and weather, most harvesting is by machine (over 80%) and the rest shared by a sort of localized "Mafia" who keep the jobs for themselves but you may be able to find some work if you try hard enough. Be warned, it is back breaking very hard work for $1 an hour plus 6 bottles of wine a day or $2 extra (they always pay you the $2). We have accommodation on our directory site at... ...which also has a lot of other information and news on it. Do join our newsletter (and get all your friends to join as well). There is some information there on local vintners. Good luck, come and have a glass (or two) with us when you come Tony === 7. The great Britain Travel Guide Many of our visitors to France arrive here from the UK or make the UK their next port of call.
